Six runners from Belle Vue made the trip south for the 28th Flora London Marathon. Good conditions (with only the occasional heavy shower) made for fast times. There were personal bests for Alison Sedman (3:03:26) and Jon Sargeant (3:04:08). Nigel Sedman claimed a good for age spot in next year's race with a run of 3:13:20. Tom Snaith (3:42:57), Chris Yianni (3:58:34) and Alan Thomas (4:52:40) completed the Belle Vue contingent. A great day, highly recommended.
Autumn/Winter Championship - Winners
The winners of the 2007/08 Autumn/Winter Championship were announced at the club night out in Rusholme on 14 March. The women's award went to Annie Hirsch after another great season. Runner-up was Dee O'Neill, with Rebecca Ratford in third place. The men's competition was won once again by Nigel Sedman, just holding off Kevin Egerton for first place. Third place went to James Corrigan. Progress awards went to Kevin Egerton and Susan Sheehan. Congratulations to all, and thanks to Annie for organising a great night in Rusholme.
Hit The Trail, 13 January 2008
Belle Vue Racers' Hit The Trail race held in the beautiful Reddish Vale Country Park was a great success again on 13th January 2008. A good entry of over 120 turned out to run - excellent bearing in mind there was a Manchester Cross County race the same day. The team of 21 Belle Vue marshals did a great job of directing and encouraging runners, and both runners and marshals appreciated the fact that the weather was kind compared to what had been forecast. Damien Nicholls of Wilmslow came home first in an impressive time of 26:02 and Joanna Seymour of Hallamshire Harriers was 11th overall and first lady in 32:21. Thanks to all the runners who supported the race and the marshals and other officials who made everything go smoothly on the day. See you all next year.
