Club champions for Spring/Summer 2009 are James Corrigan and Annie Hirsch. James (400 points) held off challenges from Andy Roberts (378) and Tom Snaith (328) to take the men's title. The women's competition was extremely closely-fought, with Annie (389 points) just pipping Alison Sedman (383), with Rebecca Healey in third place on 353 points. Progress awards went to Andy Roberts and Tina Hicks. Results were announced by Lynda at the Belle Vue Racers 20th anniversary night at Hough End. It was a fantastic night, with many BVR runners past and present in attendance. Thanks to everyone who made the event a great success.

The sun shone for the fourth event in the Manchester Parks Series, held at Debdale Park and hosted by Belle Vue Racers. The men's senior race was won by Matthew Crehan from St Helens Sutton AC in 24:06, while Leanne Sheehy from Leigh was first woman home in 27:25. There were good performances from Belle Vue Racers women, notably Emma Jones (third woman in 28:36) and Alison Sedman (second in the V40 category in 29:18). Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a successful event once again. Full Results.

The last day of January saw the South East Lancs Cross Country League come to a glorious end at Heaton Park. The start line for the ladies' race was full of quantity and quality - plenty of White and Black shirts of the faithful Belle Vue Racers! Cath Carney made running up hills, over fallen trees and across streams look easy as she won the ladies' race (and league), closely followed by Jill Osgood (6th), Captain Hirsch (19th), with Cecilia Boodhoo and Rebecca Healey not far behind. We only came second (and 9th and 11th!!!) in the team table but the organisers only count the top three finishers - "There are lies, damn lies and statistics"! Only kidding - thanks South East Lancs organisers and marshals for braving the cold while we trot past you!
The men's race was enjoyed by all, despite the fact that the ladies made the marshy bits even more marshy! James Corrigan flew in with a time of 41:38 with Steve Bunyan not far behind. Phil D'Netto proved medical science wrong by clocking a 46 minute time within seven days of his awe-inspiring sub-four hour Miami Marathon performance (in tropical heat) for BVRI (Belle Vue Racers International). There was a Belle Vue Battle Royale as Barry Guy and Kevin "The Edge" Egerton headed up the glory hill to the finish. Kev just about pipped Barry but Barry earned plenty of glory - he battled through a nasty ankle injury to ensure that we got a full team and score 7th in the end of season men’s table - typical Belle Vue dedication from Barry.
Thanks again to the organisers and marshals who made this league special. Full Heaton Park results.
The full league results make impressive reading with the following awards in ladies' age groups: Cath Carney 1st, Jill Osgood 2nd, Julia Foy 4th, Dee O'Neill 5th, Maxine Grimshaw 5th, Rebecca Healey 6th, Christine Barber 7th. We won awards at over 35s (but there is no name next to the winner at time of going to press). Men: James Corrigan 11th, Kev Egerton 20th. Thank you and well done to all those who took part. Report by Steve Webb.

Thanks to everyone who helped with Hit The Trail. Things were somewhat more difficult than usual this year, with among other things doubt about whether the Carousel would be open and a race day inspection by UK Athletics to contend with. In the circumstances a really good event was put on. Running conditions were not ideal, with icy patches on some parts of the course. There were at least a couple of fallers, though thankfully no serious injuries. Feedback on the day was very positive, with praise for the marshalls who braved the conditions and provided enthusiastic support for the 157 runners. The men's race was won by 2008 winner Damian Nicholls from Wilmslow RC in 26:06, while first woman was Joanne Seymour from Hallamshire Harriers, also a winner in 2008, in 31:10. There was also a good run by Belle Vue Racers' Carmen Anthony, second woman in 31:44. Full results and feedback from Runners World website.
